Local Government is an elected system of Government directly accountable to the local community.
The Local Government Act comprising the Local Government Act 1993 as amended by other Acts, sets out the system and operational framework for Local Government in the Northern Territory.
The Local Government (Electoral) Regulations contain the requirements for municipal council elections. They set out how the elections are to be conducted, who can nominate, who can vote, how the votes are counted and other important matters.
